Elena Esposito (born October 21, 1960 in Milan ) is an Italian sociologist , writer and professor at Bielefeld University and associate professor at Modena and Reggio Emilia University . She lives in Bologna.

Life

Elena Esposito studied political science at the University of Bologna (diploma 1983 with Giuliano Piazzi) and then philosophy (diploma 1987 with Umberto Eco ). From 1986 to 1990 she studied sociology at the University of Bielefeld on a DAAD scholarship and did her doctorate in 1990 with Niklas Luhmann . Her habilitation also took place in 2001 at Bielefeld University.

It is noteworthy that the Luhmannian philosophy of science is based less - as is common in systems theory - with George Spencer-Brown than with Gotthard Günther .

Elena Esposito has been teaching sociology of communication at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia since 2001 . Her current research interests are sociological media theory , memory research and theory of fashion .
