Elena Fokina

Elena Fokina ( Russian Елена Фокина ; born May 3, 1977 in Moscow ) is a Russian ballet dancer , choreographer and dance teacher.

Life

Elena Fokina received her training as a dancer at the Moscow State University of Art and Culture and the Russian Academy of Theater Arts in Moscow. From 1997 to 2001 she was a member of the Russian Chamber Ballet Moscow. In 2001 she engaged Wim Vandekeybus after an audition for his ballet "Blush". This started a long-term collaboration with Vandekeybus and his company Ultima Vez and a number of joint ballet productions. In 2004 the dance film Blush (2004) was made. a. Received the Directors Guild of America Award ; and Here After in 2007, and the Montréal International Festival of Films on Art Award in 2008. From 2009 to 2013 she worked a. a. with the choreographer German Jauregui. Since 2015 she has been a dancer and dance teacher at the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm. There she danced in productions by Mats Ek , Sasha Waltz , Olivier Dubois and Sharon Eyal. In 2016 the Belgian Damien Jalet created the choreography for Luca Guadagnino's film Suspiria , in which Elena Fokina plays the role of the dancer Olga and dances.

Elena Fokina currently lives in Stockholm.
