Johannes Öhman

Johannes Öhman (born July 22, 1967 in the municipality of Högalids in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ballet dancer and artistic director . Since August 2018 he has directed the Berlin State Ballet . On January 22nd, 2020 it was announced that Öhman will give up his position as Artistic Director in Berlin in December 2020 and will be artistic director of Dansenhus in Stockholm from January 2021 .

Career

Öhman is the son of Birgitta Öhman, producer for Swedish television, and Sven Öhman, professor of linguistics at Uppsala University . Öhman studied at the Kungliga Svenska Balettskolan ( Royal Swedish Ballet School ) in Stockholm and in Paris with teachers such as Raymond Franchetti , Michail Messerer , Konstantin Damianov and Ellen Rasch . In 1987 he was employed by the Royal Swedish Ballet , where he was appointed soloist in 1991. Johannes Öhman won the Paris “Prix Rayonnement” at the Paris International Ballet Competition in 1986 and was a finalist at the Varna International Ballet Competition that same year . In 1987 he represented Sweden at Eurovision Young Dancers in Schwetzingen . Between 1986 and 1988 he danced as a soloist with the Basel Ballet in Switzerland. Johannes Öhman has worked as a teacher at the Cullberg Ballet, the Ballet Academy in Stockholm and the Royal Ballet. From 2002 to 2007 Johannes Öhman took on the position of Artistic Director of Stockholm 59 ° North, a modern dance ensemble with soloists from the Royal Swedish Ballet, which tours both in Sweden and abroad.

Royal Swedish Ballet, Stockholm

In 2011 he took over the management of the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm .
