Syrjä first took part in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Cardrona in August 2017 and finished 57th in Slopestyle. In the 2017/18 season he reached fifth place in the Big Air World Cup with three top ten placements. At the 2019 World Championships in Park City , he achieved 22nd place in slopestyle and 21st place in Big Air. After finishing 18th in Modena at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he came under the top ten three times and thus again reached fifth place in the Big Air World Cup. At the Winter X Games 2020 in Aspen , he finished seventh in Big Air.
