Jules-Élie Delaunay (born June 12, 1828 in Nantes , † September 5, 1891 in Paris ) was a French painter .

Jules-Élie Delaunay was a student of Hippolyte Flandrin and Lamothe and won the Grand Prize for Rome in 1856 and left in 1865 with a picture of the Communion of the Apostles, which, although based on the imitation of Raphael , betrayed its own poetic verve and warmth of feeling. It came to the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris, as did the following three historical and mythological compositions: the plague in Rome (1869), the death of Nessus (1870) and Diana (1872).

Some of his later creations include: the triumph of David (1874) and the fall of Ixion into Hades (1876). He also painted numerous portraits and executed decorative paintings in the Church of La Trinité (Paris) and in the New Opera ( Triumph of Singing ).
