Elin Manahan Thomas (born January 1, 1977 in Swansea ) is a Welsh opera singer ( soprano ) specializing in baroque music .

Life

Thomas, daughter of a professor of literature at Swansea University , sang as a student in the Swansea Bach Choir. She graduated from the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic , University of Cambridge by 1998 . There she also won a singing competition in 1995. In 1999 the Monteverdi Choir invited them to perform together under John Eliot Gardiner . Thomas got the opportunity to perform the Bach aria Alles Mit Gott from 1713, which was only rediscovered in Weimar in 2005, for the first time. She describes Bach , Handel and Purcell as her favorite composers .

Thomas sang in numerous opera productions, including Pamina in Mozart's Magic Flute , Belinda in Dido and Aeneas or Despina in Così fan tutte . In 2015 she took on the vocal role in Jessica Curry's soundtrack for the game Everybody's Gone to the Rapture .

In 2006 she married the opera singer Robert Davies and lives with her family in Brighton , Sussex .
