Elisabeth Catharina von Barckhaus (* 1696 Frankfurt am Main as Katharina Elisabeth von Kellner ; † 1749 ibid) was a German citizen's wife and founder from Frankfurt am Main.

Life

Elisabeth Catharina von Barckhaus was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1696. While she was married to Heinrich von Barckhaus, the couple lived in the Palais Barckhaus in Frankfurt.

The Glock coin collection

At a young age, Anton Philipp Glock (1694–1721) undertook a three-year trip through Belgium and France . The main purpose of this trip was to acquire and build up a collection of Greek and Roman coins. When he died in 1721, his cousin and wife Katharina Elisabeth von Kellner inherited . In 1732 the widow Glock married the senator , lawyer and later Reichshofrat Heinrich von Barckhaus (1691-1752).

The collection of Anton Philipp Glock counted 3296 Greek and Roman coins made of gold, silver and bronze, divided into 55 gold coins, 298 silver and copper Greek coins of kings, cities and peoples, 18 large copper coins of the Roman Republic, 229 silver coins of the Roman Republic, 307 Large copper coins of the Roman Empire, 587 copper imperial coins of medium and small format, 122 Greek coins of the Roman imperial period and 1405 Roman imperial coins of the smallest format.

The couple added other rare materials such as amber , mother-of-pearl and silver to the collection . This part of the collection was also donated to the city of Frankfurt when they died.

In 1749 she donated her deceased husband's coin collection to the city library. Today it is a department of the Historical Museum in Frankfurt . There were no children from the marriage. After the death of the donor couple, their art cabinet was also moved to the city ​​library . This contained high-quality objects in skilful processing. It is the only surviving example of this princely form of collection and representation in the city of Frankfurt. The couple donated the collections independently of one another. Her husband also donated the collection cabinet to his hometown when he died in 1752.
