Elisabeth Feller

Elisabeth Feller (born April 3, 1910 in Horgen ; † January 12, 1973 ibid) was a Swiss entrepreneur and art patron .

Elisabeth Feller was the daughter of Adolf Feller , the founder of the electrical engineering company Feller AG , and Emma Feller, geb. Richi. When Adolf died in 1931, his widow and the then 21-year-old Elisabeth took over the company, which they converted into a stock corporation. Elisabeth Feller broke off her geography studies at the University of Zurich and at the School of Economics to manage the company and from then on devoted herself to the company, in which she and her mother were primarily committed to equal rights for female staff.

Feller was also a pioneer of the women's movement in public life . She was co-founder and first president of the Swiss Association of Professional and Business Women for Better Opportunities for Women in Business. From 1950 to 1973 she headed the expert commission on equal pay for work of equal value of the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations . She was also internationally active and had a. a. holds the office of President of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women and membership in various UN bodies (e.g. as Vice President of the Swiss UNESCO Commission). Above all, she called for “equal pay for equal work” and the improvement of working conditions for women.

In addition to her commitment to women's rights, the entrepreneur also worked as a sponsor for artists. Together with the pediatrician Marie Meierhofer, she also campaigned for the creation of modern day nurseries.

Elisabeth Feller was publicly honored on the occasion of the annual women's honor of the Gesellschaft zu Fraumünster on Sechseläuten in 2012. A memorial plaque is located at Stockerstrasse 9.
