Elisabeth Gottschalk

Marie Karoline Elisabeth Gottschalk (born October 28, 1912 in Mönchengladbach , † September 14, 1989 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch historical geographer from Germany .

Gottschalk worked as a geography teacher in Margraten , Helmond and Oostburg . The later professor of physical geography Jan Pieter Bakker aroused her interest in the historical geography of Zeeland . In 1958 she was appointed research assistant for historical geography in Utrecht and in 1962 at the Universiteit van Amsterdam .

As a historical geographer, she specialized in the Dutch coastal areas and floods.

She became a lecturer in historical geography at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. In 1977 she retired. Gottschalk continued to develop historical geography in the Netherlands and prepared the appointment of two professors in Amsterdam and Wageningen (1980 and 1988). Chris de Bont, the professor in Wageningen, was trained by Gottschalk.
