Elisabeth Countess of Soden

Elisabeth Countess von Soden (born June 9, 1921 as Elisabeth Baumeister in Stuttgart , † March 25, 2008 in Pleidelsheim ) was a German sportswoman and world champion in target shooting .

Origin and family environment

Since August 16, 1953, she was married to Hans Joachim Graf von Soden (1909–1976) as his third wife in a childless marriage. Her husband came from the Count's line of Soden , his family originally from Hanover, the Sode council family, who derived his origin.

Athletic career

Von Soden was enthusiastic about shooting sports from her husband, who was a hunter and marksman. She soon towered over all competitors in the shooting competitions. She became German target shooting champion 12 times and European champion twice; first in 1967 in Brno and then again in 1975 in Vienna.

The highlight of her sporting career was winning the 1966 World Cup in Wiesbaden. She was the first German to achieve this title in shooting sports. That is why she was affectionately called 'the Hex' among her colleagues.

She was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for her athletic achievements.
