Elisabeth Holzleithner (born June 8, 1970 ) is an Austrian lawyer , legal philosopher and university professor for legal philosophy and legal gender studies at the University of Vienna .

Life

After graduating from the AHS (HIB Saalfelden), Elisabeth Holzleithner studied law at the University of Vienna , where she also did her doctorate in law . From 1989 on, she also studied philosophy and Scandinavian studies (Norwegian) for a few years . From 1991 Holzleithner was employed as a study and contract assistant at the Institute for Legal Philosophy and Legal Theory . She began teaching independently at the law faculty in 1995. From 2006 Holzleithner worked as an assistant professor at the Institute for Legal Philosophy, Religious and Cultural Law. In the same year she was invited to the University of Zurich as a visiting professor . In 2011 he completed his habilitation in the fields of legal philosophy, legal theory, legal sociology and legal gender studies. In 2014 Elisabeth Holzleithner was appointed professor for legal philosophy and legal gender studies at the University of Vienna.

In 2001 Holzleithner was awarded the Käthe Leichter Prize for the women's history of the workers' movement in 2000 (Federal Minister for Social Security and Generations) and the Gabriele Possanner Prize for scientific achievements that are beneficial to gender democracy in Austria (Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research), excellent. In 2017 she received the Frauenring Prize and the Gabriele Possanner State Prize .

Her main research interests are in the area of ​​legal gender studies, and she is considered one of the leading scientists in this field. She performs numerous functions in the field of science management and the scientific community: Vice Head of Studies in Law at the University of Vienna (since 2012), Substitute Member of the Ethics Committee of the University of Vienna (since 2013), Member of the Arbitration Commission of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna (since 2011), Substitute Member of the Arbitration Commission at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (since 2010), disciplinary attorney at the Federal Ministry for Science and Research (2013-2017) and member of the German section of the International Association for Legal and Social Philosophy, Secretary of the Society for Applied Ethics and Social Philosophy. In addition, Holzleithner was a member of the UniFrauenJubel working group for the preparation of events on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the University of Vienna (2013–2015), member of the arbitration commission at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (2006–2011), chairwoman of the working group for equal treatment issues of the University of Vienna (1994–2001), member of the working group for equality issues in the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture (1994–2001), as well as spokeswoman for the Young Forum on Legal Philosophy (1997–2001).

On September 19, 2019, she gave a lecture at the plenary session of the 37th Conference of the Society for Comparative Law at the University of Greifswald on the subject of "Equality and Equal Treatment Today - Concepts and Concepts in Conflict".
