Elisabeth Lange , b. Höppner (* July 7, 1900 in Detmold ; † January 28, 1944 in Hamburg ) was a German housewife and a victim of National Socialism .

Life

Elisabeth Lange was a friend of Katharina Leipelt , the mother of Hans Conrad Leipelt . During the time of National Socialism , she took part in meetings in the house of the Leipelt family, at which the Nazi rule and the possibilities of resistance were critically discussed. On December 10, 1943, she and her husband Alexander Lange were arrested by the Gestapo . She was accused of being involved in the activities of the Hamburg branch of the White Rose . On January 28, 1944, she perished in the Fuhlsbüttel police prison under unexplained circumstances. According to official sources, she committed suicide .

A stumbling block in Hoppenstedtstrasse in Hamburg-Eißendorf reminds of Elisabeth Lange . In Hamburg-Langenbek , the Elisabeth-Lange-Weg was named after her. She is listed by name alongside the other victims of the White Rose with the White Rose memorial in Hamburg-Volksdorf . From August 1, 2021, the Ehestorfer Weg district school in Hamburg-Eißendorf will be renamed the Elisabeth-Lange-Schule (ELSE).
