She was the daughter of Valentin Lemmerhirt (d. 1665), a furrier and coachman from Erfurt. The parental home on Erfurt Junkersand is still preserved. Lemmerhirt married her childhood friend, Johann Ambrosius Bach (1645–1695) , on April 8, 1668, in the Kaufmannskirche . The housing shortage and the unfavorable economic situation led the young couple to leave Erfurt in 1671 and settle in Eisenach. Johann Sebastian Bach was born there in 1685 as the eighth son.

A half-sister of Lemmerhirt, Martha Dorothea, was the mother of the musician and musicologist Johann Gottfried Walther , with whom Johann Sebastian Bach worked in Weimar .
