Elisabeth Schnitzler

Elisabeth Schnitzler (born December 4, 1912 in Allenstein in East Prussia, today Olsztyn / Poland, † April 24, 2003 in Rostock ) was a German archivist.

Life

Elisabeth Schnitzler was the daughter of the pedagogue Heinrich Schnitzler. She passed the Abitur in Rostock in 1932 and studied Latin, history and theology at the University of Rostock , in Innsbruck and Münster from 1932 to 1937 , where she passed the examination for the higher teaching post in 1937; The doctorate followed in 1938. In 1939 she got a job as a research assistant at the city archive and at the museum in Rostock, where she was responsible for the archive during the war years from 1942 to 1945. After the end of the war, the stocks that had previously been outsourced were returned under her leadership. Elisabeth Schnitzler took over the university archive of the University of Rostock and rebuilt it, whereby an image archive was also created. From 1963 to 1966 she was employed at the Historical Institute of the University of Rostock.
