Elisabeth Urbancic

Elisabeth Urbancic , married Elisabeth Urbancic-Waltz (born August 13, 1925 in Vienna ) is an Austrian costume designer and set designer .

Life

Elisabeth Urbancic is the daughter of the doctor Rudolf Urbantschitsch and the Burgtheatre actress Maria Mayen , who was married to the castle actor Emmerich Reimers after the divorce from her first husband .

From 1944 to 1948 she studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts with Emil Pirchan . Then she attended Fernand Léger's studio in Paris until 1950 , where she trained in painting. In 1950 she became an assistant set designer at the Münchner Kammerspiele , and from 1953 she worked as a freelance artist. In addition to the Kammerspiele, she worked as a stage and costume designer for the Bavarian State Theater until 1970 , in particular for productions by Rudolf Noelte , Axel von Ambesser and Imo Moszkowicz as well as for the Burgtheater and the Salzburg Festival . From 1951 she worked as a costume designer for films and later for television. Her collaboration with director Kurt Hoffmann was particularly successful . Elisabeth Urbancic also worked as a theater painter and graphic artist .

She was married to the set and costume designer Johannes Waltz (1922–1964) and is the mother of the actors Martin Waltz and Christoph Waltz . After the death of her first husband, she was married to the composer Alexander Steinbrecher .
