Elisabeth von Oettingen also Elisabeth von Leuchtenberg (* around 1360; † July 9, 1406 ) was a princess from the noble family von Oettingen ; by marriage she belonged to the Count House of Leuchtenberg and was a lady-in-waiting of the Palatinate Elector and German King Ruprecht III.

Life

Elisabeth von Oettingen was the daughter of Count Ludwig X. von Oettingen (often referred to as Ludwig XI.) († May 1, 1370) and his wife Imagina von Schaunberg († 1377). Around 1376 she married the Landgrave Albrecht von Leuchtenberg († approx. 1398).

Little is known about the life of Elisabeth von Oettingen. She acted as a lady-in-waiting at the Electoral Palatinate court. Irmengard von Oettingen , the cousin of her grandfather Friedrich I. von Öttingen, had married Count Palatine Adolf the Honorable and was the grandmother of the Palatinate Elector and German King Ruprecht III. Elisabeth von Oettingen and Elector or King Ruprecht III. so were related. Presumably she came to the Palatinate court at the request or recommendation of her very old great-aunt Irmengard von Oettingen († 1389 or 1399), the elector's grandmother, who lived as a Dominican in the Worms monastery in Liebenau .

Elisabeth von Oettingen gave the collegiate church Neustadt an der Haardt (today Neustadt an der Weinstrasse), memoria and burial place of the ruling house Wittelsbach , a valuable collection of 52 holy relics in two silver containers that were lost during the Reformation. As a relative of the Wittelsbach family, she was buried with them in the choir of this church, where her epitaph with the coats of arms of the Counts of Oettingen and Leuchtenberg has been preserved. The damaged tombstone was found in the church floor in 1907 near the northern entrance to the catholic part and is now placed on the west wall of the southern choir chapel. Elisabeth von Öttingen has an eternal mass memory in the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse collegiate church ; In the contemporary entry in the old Seelbuch , the relic gift to the monastery is highlighted again.

The son of Elisabeth von Oettingen, Landgrave Leopold von Leuchtenberg († 1463) was governor of the Electorate of the Palatinate in Amberg and was later ruled. This, too, is possibly due to the extensive kinship with the king and the reputation of his mother as his lady-in-waiting. Landgrave Leopold's magnificent marble epitaph with a portrait figure has been preserved in the parish church of Pfreimd in the Upper Palatinate. The official website of the community shows the imposing knight in the header.

Elisabeth's brother Friedrich IV of Oettingen , was Bishop of Eichstätt ; he was considered one of the most pious and active German shepherds of his time.

Her other brother Ludwig XI. with the beard (sometimes referred to as Ludwig XII.) King Sigismund served for many years as court master and close confidante. In this position he acted as the highest official of the empire and also took part in the Council of Constance .
