Elise Hofmann

Elise Hofmann (born February 5, 1889 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † March 14, 1955 there ) was an Austrian paleobotanist and teacher.

Hofmann first completed an apprenticeship as a secondary school teacher and worked in this profession all her life. She took the Matura and studied at the University of Vienna , where she in 1920 when Fritz von Wettstein Dr. phil. received his doctorate. In 1935 she qualified as a professor in paleobotany. She read this subject at the University of Vienna, but was not employed there. In 1950 she was given a tit. a. Professor awarded. As a paleobotanist, Hofmann was particularly interested in the paleohistology of fossil woods.

Elise Hofmann wrote numerous articles for Austrian journals, the negotiations of the Federal Geological Institute (Vienna) and the meeting reports of the Academy of Sciences , mathematical and scientific class.
