Eliza Illiard

Eliza Illiard , also Ellice Illiard or Elisa Illiard (born March 25, 1905 in Cologne as Elisabeth Pieper , † July 8, 1969 in Berlin ), was a German coloratura soprano .

Life

In 1932/1934 Illiard was engaged at the Nationaltheater Mannheim under artistic director Herbert Maisch , who was also known as the director of 14 feature films. In 1933 she played the Fiaker-Milli in the world premiere of Arabella by Richard Strauss at the Dresden State Opera . In 1934 she sang Dolores in the world premiere of "Lockende Flamme" by Eduard Künneke in the Theater des Westens in Berlin, also in 1934 Elisabeth Hausdorf in the world premiere of "Lauf ins Glück" by Fred Raymond (with Hans Söhnker ) at the Metropol Theater in Berlin

Other stage roles (excerpt): Angele Didier in “ Der Graf von Luxemburg ” in the Theater des Volkes in Berlin, Laura in “ Der Bettelstudent ” in the Admiralspalast in Berlin. Female lead role in “Herz über Bord” in the Theater am Nollendorfplatz in Berlin Singing diva in the program “ Women at the Variete ”in the Wintergarten Berlin , October 1935.

Since March 1935, Eliza Illiard was married to the composer, stage and music publisher and conductor Will Meisel , who composed 51 film scores, 11 works for the stage and numerous evergreens . Eliza Illiard was the first interpreter of his coloratura waltz “Lach mein Herz”.

She was the mother of two sons, Peter (1935-2010) and Thomas (1940-2014). Both became independent publishers in 1960, and from 1969 sole owners of the Meisel publishing group.

Eliza Illiard lived with her family in Berlin and was a respected figure in Berlin society because of her artistic success, her expertise and her charm . She died on July 8, 1969 and was buried next to her husband in the Wilmersdorf cemetery.
