Elizabeth Grosz

Elizabeth Grosz (born October 14, 1952 in Sydney , Australia ) is a feminist philosopher and theorist .

life and work

Elizabeth Grosz earned her Bachelor's (with honors) and PhD in Philosophy in 1981 from the Department of General Philosophy at the University of Sydney , where she also taught from 1978 to 1991. From 1992 she was a professor at Monash University in Melbourne and director of the newly founded Institute of Critical and Cultural Studies . She also taught critical theory and philosophy there .

From 1999 to 2001, she was Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the State University of New York at Buffalo . At Rutgers University , she was Professor in the Department for Woman and Gender Studies from 2002 to 2012, until she finally became Professor of Women's Studies and Literary Studies at Duke University in 2012 .

In her research, Grosz deals with French philosophers such as Jacques Lacan , Jacques Derrida , Michel Foucault , Luce Irigaray and Gilles Deleuze and writes on topics of feminism , sexuality , temporality and Darwinian evolutionary theory .
