Elizabeth Harwood
Elizabeth Jean Harwood (born May 27, 1938 in Barton Seagrave near Kettering , England , † June 22, 1990 in Ingatestone , England) was a British opera and oratorio singer ( lyric soprano ).
Life
Harwood studied at the Royal Northern College of Music , a conservatory in Manchester, and made his debut in 1957 as Micaela in an arrangement of Carmen . In 1960 she had her breakthrough in Glyndebourne as the second boy in the Magic Flute . Her youthful, pure, timbre not dissimilar to Gundula Janowitz - albeit more voluminous - soprano has been recognized worldwide, both in lyrical-dramatic and humorous parts (see discography).
