Elke Luise Barnstedt

Elke Luise Barnstedt (born February 18, 1956 in Dernbach ) is a German lawyer. From 1999 to 2010 she was Director at the Federal Constitutional Court and from 2011 to 2016 Vice President for Human Resources and Law at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) .

Life

Elke Luise Barnstedt studied law in Göttingen , where she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Agricultural Law until 1983 , after having passed the First State Examination in 1980 . In 1985 she passed the second state examination in law and then worked as an academic adviser at the University of Osnabrück . In 1988 she received her doctorate and joined the administration of the University of Karlsruhe. After several months as a consultant at the Ministry of Science and Research in Baden-Württemberg , she was appointed Deputy Chancellor of the University of Karlsruhe in December 1992 . From 1994 to 1998 she was Chancellor of the University of Konstanz .

On January 1, 1999, she was appointed director at the Federal Constitutional Court. During her tenure, she pushed through the increase in the number of academic staff from 14 to 64.

Elke Luise Barnstedt was a member of the University Council of the University of Mannheim from 2000 to 2004 and was a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Baden from 2002 to 2008 .

From the beginning of 2011 to December 31, 2016, she was Vice President for Human Resources and Law at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Since 2017 Elke Luise Barnstedt has been the deputy chairwoman of the selection committee according to the administrative agreement between the federal and state governments in accordance with Art. 91b paragraph 1 of the Basic Law on a program for the promotion of young scientists. This selection committee decides on the approval of a total of 1000 W1 professorships for universities. Barnstedt has been a member of the University Council of the Karlsruhe University of Education since summer 2018 and its chairman since November 2018.
