The recordings for Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas were made in July and August 1960. Ella Fitzgerald sings some of the most famous American Christmas songs and Christmas jazz standards here . The arrangements were written by Frank De Vol , who accompanied Ella Fitzgerald during the recording with his orchestra. In 2002 Verve released a CD of this Christmas record, which was expanded to include a few more recordings. Apart from mono versions of some songs that she had recorded with Frank DeVol, but which had appeared on a single at the time, it was the song The Secret of Christmas , which she had recorded on September 3, 1959 with Russell Garcia and his orchestra.
