Ella Zeller-Constantinescu (born November 26, 1933 in Moldova Nouă ) is a former Romanian table tennis player and functionary. She is a four-time world champion.

Active

Ella Constantinescu is the daughter of parents of German origin. In the 1950s she was one of the best players in Romania. At the national championships she won five times in a row in individual from 1957 to 1971. In doubles she won eleven titles, namely from 1953 to 1956 and 1958 with Angelica Adelstein-Rozeanu , 1959 to 1961 with M. Tompa and 1963 to 1965 with Maria Alexandru . She won seven times in mixed, in 1952 with Farkas Paneth , 1956 with Toma Reiter, 1957 and 1958 with Matei Gantner , 1959 and 1961 with Otto Bottner and 1963 with Dorin Giurgiucă .

Between 1952 and 1967 she played internationally for Romania. She won her first gold medal at the 1953 World Cup with the Romanian team. In 1955 she became world champion in doubles with Angelica Adelstein-Rozeanu . The doubles defended this title at the 1956 World Cup , plus gold in the team competition. There are also two silver medals with the team in 1952 and 1963 as well as five bronze medals: 1956 , 1957 and 1963 in singles, 1956 in mixed with Toma Reiter and 1957 in doubles with Maria Golopenta .

In 1958 she won the 1958 European Championship in doubles with Angelica Adelstein-Rozeanu . There are also two silver medals, in 1958 with the team and in 1964 in doubles with Maria Alexandru .

Functionary

After the end of her active career in 1967, Ella Zeller-Constantinescu worked for the Romanian table tennis association for 22 years as technical director and trainer of the women's national team. In 1988 she took over the office of Vice President at the European Association ETTU . She had to surrender this in 1992 because Hans Wilhelm Gäb became a German President and, according to the ETTU statutes, the Vice President cannot come from the same country.

In 1989 she moved to Germany. Here she worked in the DTTB General Secretariat until 1993 . She was a consultant for women's sports and international relations as well as head of the women's Bundesliga.

Honors

Ella Zeller-Constantinescu has been an honorary member of the ETTU since 1992 . In 1995 she was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame .

Private

Ella Zeller married Dan Constantinescu. Since his family took a different from the norm political views, Ella Zeller-Constantinescu fell out of favor for several years.
