Ellen Alpsten
Ellen Alpsten (* 1971 in Kitale , Kenya ) is a German journalist and writer .
Life
Ellen Alpsten was born in Kenya in 1971 as the daughter of a veterinarian and a teacher and is the granddaughter of the West Prussian writer Edda Schultze nee. Stadie (descendant of the West Prussian historian Bernhard Stadié ).
After the family returned to Germany in 1991 , she graduated from high school in Augsburg , first studying law, politics, philosophy and economics in Cologne and later in Paris .
Today, Ellen Alpsten lives and works with her husband and three sons in London , where she works as a business editor and presenter for N24 (she previously worked for business broadcaster Bloomberg TV ). When she won the short story competition of the Grande École with her novella Meeting Mr. Gandhi in 1998, she continued to write.
After a first attempt at a novel, the journalist seriously set about researching another novel, picking up on a subject that had fascinated her since she was a girl. At that time a treatise on Catherine I , the Russian tsarina, had fallen into her hands. Research into the fate and life of this great woman led to her debut novel, Die Zarin , which was a great success with the public and has been translated into several languages.
Ellen Alpsten has been working as a freelance writer and journalist since 2004. a. for the FAZ , Spiegel Online , the German VOGUE, the magazine "Cicero" and several British publications like "VANTAGE" and the political-cultural magazine Standpoint .
