Ellen Giacone

Ellen Giacone (born October 26, 1982 in Pinerolo ) is an Italian-Dutch soprano .

Giacone began learning the piano and violin when she moved to Paris at the age of 8. At the age of 17 she received classical vocal training. She first studied biology and business administration up to a master’s degree at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris . In 2011 she completed her professional studies in classical singing after receiving tutors from Alexandra Papadjiakou, Mary Saint-Palais and Robert Expert. She also studied at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional of Paris with Fusako Kondo.

Since 2002 Giacone developed a penchant for the baroque repertoire; she gave many concerts, mostly individual programs, with various choirs and ensembles in Paris, Metz and Geneva. She also sang several times under the direction of Ton Koopman in Paris and New York; her interpretation of Handel's Ode to St. Cecilia's Day was praised in the New York Times .

In 2012 she joined the Monteverdi Choir under the direction of John Eliot Gardiner for various projects in Europe. She also sang regularly with other English ensembles, including Polyphony under the direction of Stephen Layton. She is also a member of the French ensemble Athénaïs , with whom she has recorded two albums with the French baroque repertoire ( Anima Christi , 2011 & O Amor Jesu , 2014, Bayard Musique). She also sings regularly with the Paris ensembles Pygmalion, Accentus and Luce del Canto , with whom she recorded the album Paroles à l'absent (2014).

Her first solo album, Vocalise Ave Maria , was released in November 2014 on the French label Monthabor. On stage she sang various operas and oratorios, such as Rousseau's Devin du Village (2006), Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (2009 and 2014), Mozart's La finta giardiniera (2011) and Handel's Messiah (2011).

As a soloist, she has also interpreted 20th century composers such as Fauré , Stravinsky , Poulenc , Britten and Berio . Since the end of 2013 she has been a member of Ensembl-e-change , a group founded by Nicolas Agùllo to interpret contemporary repertoire and arrangements of traditional music from South America. She also recorded the minimalist album You've Never Listened to the Wind with the AUM Grand Ensemble . With Youen Cadiou she founded the Body & Soul Trio , which interprets jazz standards and early music.
