Life

Ellen Schaller grew up in a traditional East German cabaret family. Her father is the Dresden cabaret author Wolfgang Schaller , her younger brother Philipp Schaller is also a cabaret artist and author. She has three other siblings. After graduating from the Evangelisches Kreuzgymnasium Dresden , Ellen Schaller attended the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin from 1983 to 1987 .

Ellen Schaller has been married to theater director Gerald Gluth-Goldmann since 2010 . The couple have a daughter (* 1997).

Career

During her studies she did her first work for television, including playing in Polizeiruf 110 , as well as guest appearances as Molser at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater Berlin in Der Pflug und die Sterne , directed by Rolf Winkelgrund . After completing her studies, she joined the Plauen-Zwickau Theater in 1987 and performed as a guest at the Karl-Marx-Stadt Municipal Theater in 1989 . From 1992 to 1996 she was part of the ensemble at the German-Sorbian People's Theater in Bautzen .

In 1997 she moved back to Dresden and began her work as a cabaret artist at the Chemnitz cabaret, which continues to this day. There she played in over 30 programs, three of them as solo evenings. She worked there with the authors Martin Meier Bode and Cornelia Molle, among others, but also with her brother Philipp Schaller. In the Dresdner Herkuleskeule , the parent company of your father Wolfgang Schaller, she has already been on stage with her brother Philipp: at the quarterly late night show Spätzünder in 2011 and 2012. She regularly appears in Dresden with her solo programs, Chemnitz, Zwickau, Senftenberg, Görlitz and in summer on the Baltic Sea on Usedom and Hiddensee.

Ellen Schaller combines the cabaret stage with her acting craft: she slips into various roles in her programs that reflect her views on politics and society. The change of characters is usually done openly on stage by changing various accessories and costume pieces. In an interview with the Freie Presse about a guest performance with Prosecco for Everyone in Zwickau, she said: “I like to treat political and social issues in this country from the perspective of different people. For example when a teacher talks about her everyday life. I find that more exciting, more sensual than when I appear as Ellen Schaller. "

She remained loyal to acting: since 2004 she has been playing in various comedies at Hoppe's Hoftheater Dresden, including in Unheard of intim and contacts and in the Dresden Theater & Comedy Club the monologue Men and Other Errors .

Quote

About the cabaret: “I enjoy it. Because the energy I give I get back directly from the audience. I always go down from the stage with adrenaline. "
“A text is only good for me if it hurts, if I feel caught too. The typical murmur just has to be there - I love that. But then the food has to come back with a liberating laugh at the punchline. I think you need both. "
