Ernst Thälmann is a two-part television film made by DEFA in 1986. It was first broadcast on February 7, 1986 in the first program on GDR television .

The biographical film spans from May 1, 1929, the so-called Blutmai , on which police officers shot demonstrating Berlin workers, to February 7, 1933, the day on which the meeting of the KPD Central Committee took place in Ziegenhals , on the Thälmann last appeared as a speaker.

Filming began in 1984 and took place in Görlitz and Wuppertal , among others . The lettering installed for the film is still there today.
