Gustav von Weller
Gustav Karl Friedrich Franz von Weller (born September 4, 1820 in Berlin ; † November 6, 1891 in Oels ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 57th Infantry Brigade .
Life
origin
Gustav was a son of the Prussian major and adjutant in the General Command of the II Army Corps Franz von Weller (1790-1821) and his wife Emilie, née Wildgans (1800-1865).
Career
Weller received his education at the grammar school in Brandenburg an der Havel and at the local knight academy . He then visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin and was transferred on August 10, 1837 with a patent from September 4, 1837 as a second lieutenant of the 2nd Rifle Division of the Prussian Army . From 1842 to 1845 he was adjutant and from October 1846 to 1851 he attended the General War School for further training . This command was interrupted in 1848 and Weller took part in the battle at Raczlow in the suppression of the uprising in the province of Posen . On November 21, 1848 he was transferred to the 5th Jäger Battalion . Another interruption occurred in 1849 on the occasion of the Baden Revolution . In Baden he took part in the battles near Ladenburg , Steinmauern , the Federbach and the siege of Rastatt . For his work, Weller received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Zähringer Löwen .
By mid-July 1852, Weller was promoted to captain and from October 1852 he was in command of the 10th Infantry Regiment for two years . Transferred to the 11th Infantry Regiment , he was commanded on February 8th, 1859 as adjutant of the 11th Division and, when he was promoted to Major, on July 1st, 1860, he was transferred to the Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 56 . Appointed battalion commander in September 1860. This was followed on September 29, 1861 as commander of the 1st Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 5 in Görlitz . During the German-Danish War he was commanded to the Polish border from September 1 to December 15, 1864. On June 18, 1865 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and led his battalion the following year in the war against Austria at Nachod , Skalitz , Schweinschädel , Gradlitz and Königgrätz . Awarded the Order of the Crown III. Class with swords, Weller was promoted to colonel on October 30, 1866 and transferred to Breslau as commander of the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10.
In the war against France , Weller led his regiment in the battle near Chevilly and received the Iron Cross 2nd class from the hands of the Crown Prince . During the siege of Paris on November 15, 1870, he fell from his horse and broke his arm. Lieutenant Colonel Baumeister took over the leadership of the regiment for him. After the peace agreement , he was promoted to major general on November 2, 1871 and appointed commander of the 57th Infantry Brigade. In this position he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on the occasion of the festival in January 1873 . Class with a bow. On October 16, 1873 Weller took his leave with pension and was on March 5, 1874 Pension zur Disposition asked.
He died on November 6, 1891 in Oels as a knight of the Order of St. John .
family
Weller married Auguste Schwickart (1824–1866), a daughter of General Doctor Karl Ludwig Schwickart, on December 29, 1846 in Berlin. After her death, he married Henriette von Szymanski (1834–1909), a daughter of the landowner Michael von Szymonski, in Breslau on November 16, 1867. The following children emerged from the marriages:
- Fritz (1848–1928), Prussian Lieutenant General ⚭ 1882 Klara Michels (1868–1937)
- Kurt (1864–1926), Prussian major
- Paul (* 1870), Prussian Colonel ret. D. ⚭ 1894 Johanna Helene Bärentz (* 1874). Their daughter Margarete (* 1895) married the later German Lieutenant General Conrad von Cochenhausen (1888–1941) in 1920 .
