The 2nd Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 6 was an infantry unit of the Prussian Army .
History and formation
The association was formed on November 21, 1808 (Foundation Day) by the highest cabinet order with the name Silesian Rifle Battalion . It initially consisted of the four companies , whose teams consisted of eleven companies of the light infantry - "von Sell", "von Clausewitz", "Reichmeister", "von Rekowsky", "von Freiburg", "von Stenzel", "von Offeney" "," Von Polczinsky "," von Berswordt "," von Vaerst "," von Ingenheim "- recruited. These were units that had already distinguished themselves in the Fourth Coalition War in 1806/07. The battalion met on March 8, 1809 in Reichenbach in Silesia. On April 14, 1809, Major General Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg was appointed special inspector of these battalions.
After the Wars of Liberation, the association was named 1st Rifle Battalion (Silesian) from November 5, 1816 to April 12, 1821 . In the course of the division, the 3rd and 4th companies formed the 2nd . Rifle Department (Silesian) . From March 10, 1823, the country team name was dropped and the association was led under a common commander with the 1st Rifle Division until 1832 .
On October 1, 1845, the 2nd Rifle Department was renamed the 6th Jäger Department and with the establishment of a 3rd Company on November 21, 1848 it was renamed the 6th Jäger Battalion . On June 7, 1852, a fourth company was set up. In the course of the army expansion, it was renamed the 2nd Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 6 on July 4, 1860 . The 1st Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 5 emerged from the 1st Rifle Division
The battalion was assigned a test machine gun division in 1900, which was renamed Machine Machine Division No. 8 in 1902 . In July 1900 the battalion had to deploy teams to the East Asian Jäger Company , which was involved in the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion as part of the East Asian Expeditionary Corps .
To suppress the uprising of the Herero and Nama in 1904 , the battalion had to deliver 2 officers and 40 chief hunters and hunters to German South West Africa.
In 1913 the battalion set up an MG company and a cycling company . In the same year the MG division no. 8 left the association and was relocated to Carlowitz .
After the end of the First World War and the return of the battalion from France to the Oels garrison on January 6, 1919, the battalion was deployed in the border guard in Silesia until December 31, 1920 and disbanded on December 31, 1920.
