Timon Friedrich Ernst Ferdinand von Rauchhaupt (born July 9, 1827 in Trebnitz , † September 8, 1888 in Dessau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Timon was a son of the Prussian major and lord of Trebnitz Ernst von Rauchhaupt (1792–1876) and his wife Karoline, née von Reiche (1796–1879).

Military career

Rauchhaupt visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on July 4, 1844, he was transferred to the 26th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a non-commissioned officer and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by mid-June 1848 . In 1849 he took part in the fighting at Carlsdorf, Durlach and Michelbach during the suppression of the Baden Revolution . Rauchhaupt was assigned to the 4th Combined Reserve Battalion for one year in 1851/52 and to the Infantry Training Battalion from mid-April to early October 1854. In mid-September 1857 he was promoted to prime lieutenant , served from February 1858 to June 1859 as a company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 26th Landwehr Regiment in Stendal and from the end of December 1859 to the end of June 1860 in the same position with the 2nd Battalion in Burg (at Magdeburg) . This was followed by his transfer to the 3rd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment (No. 66) . Rauchhaupt became captain in mid-September 1860 and was appointed company commander two months later . In this capacity he led his company in 1866 during the war against Austria in the battle of Königgrätz and the battle of Pressburg and received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords , for his behavior .

During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Rauchhaupt was promoted to major in 1870 and appointed commander of the 1st battalion, which he led in the battles at Beaumont , Sedan and Epiney as well as the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, after the peace treaty on December 2, 1871, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 6 and then on June 1, 1875, commander of the Magdeburg Jäger Battalion No. 4 . As such, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 3, 1875 . Under a position à la suite , Rauchhaupt was commissioned on April 17, 1879, initially to lead the 1st Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 75 and on June 11, 1879, he was appointed regimental commander with the promotion to colonel . This was followed from November 11, 1884 as a major general and commander of the 16th Infantry Brigade in Erfurt . With the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring, Rauchhaupt was put up for disposal on March 11, 1886 with the statutory pension due to illness .

Rauchhaupt married on May 9, 1868 in Berlin with Ottilie von Unruh (1847–1913), daughter of the Privy Councilor Viktor von Unruh (1806–1886).
