Johann Karl August Freiherr von Streit (born August 28, 1766 in Glogau , † August 12, 1821 in Kolberg ) was a Prussian major general and commander of Kolberg.

Life

His parents were Johann Konrad von Streit and his wife Marie Sophie, née Max. His father was a councilor and detective director.

Military career

Streit attended school in Glogau and in 1783 volunteered in the engineering corps of the Prussian Army . On June 1, 1787, Streit was employed as a Junker in Füselier Battalion No. 10. There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant on June 6, 1790 . During the First Coalition War , Streit fought in the battles near Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens in 1792/95 as well as the battles near Hochheim, Alzey , Oberursel, Guntersblum , Limbach, Steinbach, Zweibrücken , Schorleberg, Busenberg, Neustadt, Türkheim, Deidesheim , Hochspeyer and the sieges of Mainz and Verdun . On October 3, 1794, Streit received the order Pour le Mérite .

After the war he was promoted to prime lieutenant on October 5, 1797 with a patent from September 14, 1797 . On April 17, 1800, he came to his battalion commander Major General Anhalt-Pless as adjutant general . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battle near Saalfeld , in the Battle of Jena and after the retreat in the defense of Danzig. After the Treaty of Tilsit , he was promoted to captain on June 1, 1807 and appointed company commander. But Streit did not receive the salary for his rank until December 7th, 1808. On February 17th, 1809 he became company commander in the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 10) . On June 9, 1810 he was promoted to major , aggregated to the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 11) and assigned to June 22, 1810. On January 8, 1812 he came as a commander in the Fusilier Battalion of the 1st East Prussian Infantry Regiment (No. 1) , on March 21, 1812 he came as a commander to the Silesian Rifle Battalion , with which he participated in the Wars of Liberation part. He fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm , Nollendorf, Leipzig and the battles near Peterswalde, Prina and the blockade of Erfurt. For Großgörschen, Streit received the Iron Cross, 2nd class, and for Dresden, the Cross, 1st class.

On December 8, 1813, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and commandant of the Erfurt fortress . Streit came to Kolberg in the same capacity on December 27, 1813. On November 27, 1814, he received the Russian Order of St. Anne II Class. On June 23, 1815 he was promoted to colonel and a little later he was granted the salary of a regimental commander of 2,500 thalers a year. On March 30, 1820, he was promoted to major general with a patent from April 14, 1820 before he died on August 12, 1821 in Kolberg.

Streit married Christiane Helene Stange (1786–1808), a daughter of Quartermaster Karl Friedrich Stange, on September 27, 1802 in Karlsruhe in Silesia. After the death of his first wife, he married on June 1, 1809 in Vogelsdorf, district of Landeshut Luise von Klaette (1787–1871). His only daughter Elise later married Wilhelm von Steinweg, who on July 28, 1858, retired as Lieutenant Colonel. D. died.
