Wilhelm Philipp Erdmann Adolf von Blanckensee (born November 29, 1812 in Berlin , † January 11, 1871 in Amiens , France ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He came from the Neumark noble family von Blanckensee and was the son of Georg Wilhelm Philipp von Blanckensee (1769-1847) and his wife Josephine, née von Lewinski (1785-1865).

Military career

After visiting the cadet institutes in Potsdam and Berlin, Blanckensee was transferred on August 10, 1830 as a second lieutenant to the Guard Jäger Battalion of the Prussian Army . In 1842/44 he worked as an examiner at the division school of the 1st Guard Division . In the course of his military career, Blanckensee rose further, was commander of Infantry Regiment No. 66 on January 19, 1863 and as such was promoted to colonel on March 17, 1863 . During the war against Austria in 1866 he took part in the battles at Münchengrätz and Königgrätz and the battle at Blumenau . His achievements were recognized by the award of the Order of the Crown, Second Class with Swords.

On September 15, 1866, he was appointed as commander of Torgau and on December 31, 1866 Blanckensee received the character as a major general. In the war against France he commanded a combined infantry brigade of the 3rd Reserve Division, which he led in the enclosure of Metz . For his achievements in the Battle of Noisseville , Blanckensee was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. During the siege of Péronne he fell ill with brain typhus, was brought to Amiens and died there.

family

Blanckensee married on March 25, 1839 in Berlin with Friederike Sophie Albertine Charlotte von der Trenck (1812–1842). After her death he married Alexandrine in Penzlin in 1846 , widowed von Winterfeldt, née von Rohr from the house of Penzlin († 1856). The third marriage went to Blanckensee in Görlitz in 1861 with Anna von Koschembahr (1825-1883). The marriages produced seven children.
