Philipp Schaller (born March 30, 1978 in Dresden ) is a German theater and cabaret writer and political cabaret artist.

Life

Philipp Schaller comes from a traditional East German cabaret family. His father is the cabaret artist Wolfgang Schaller . He has four siblings, his sister Ellen Schaller is also a cabaret artist.

After high school graduation (1998) and civil service (1999), Schaller first studied German and ethics for teaching at the TU Dresden , which he ended prematurely in favor of practical work as an assistant director at various Dresden theaters (project theater , theater boat , Herkuleskeule ). In 2001 he took up further studies at the Free University of Berlin in the subjects of theater studies and philosophy .

Schaller lives in Radebeul and has two children.

Career

During his studies, Schaller's first work as an author emerged, including for the Berlin cabaret artist Gisela Oechelhaeuser , with whom the close collaboration that continues to this day began in 2000. She also staged the world premieres of his first plays, Herr Zänker goes bathing (2002) and Stöpsel, your home is the sink (2007). Philipp Schaller wrote a total of seven political cabaret programs for Gisela Oechelhaeuser. In addition, she directed Schaller's solo program Mit Voll Hosen one sits softer (2017).

Schaller writes satirical texts for the Dresdner Herkuleskeule, the Leipzig cabaret theater academixer , Pfeffermühle , Die Funzel , the Erfurt Arche , the Hamburg theater ship Das Schiff and the Berliner Distel ; also for many solo cabaret artists, mainly for Erik Lehmann , Ellen Schaller and Michael Frowin .

Since January 1, 2020 he has been the artistic director of the cabaret Herkuleskeule Dresden, for which he has co-developed and written numerous cabaret evenings since 2005.

Quotes

About Schaller: "Philipp Schaller does cabaret that lets you endure a bad world better - with a little cynicism if necessary."
“I am just realizing that we are afraid ... to endure other opinions, but we have to do it if we want to come to better solutions. Especially when it comes to the refugee question: the left have just as much moral arrogance as the right and that is no longer bearable. One has the impression that in Germany there are only the Nazis and the do-gooders and no one in between. I'm trying to do away with that, of course in a very ironic, pointed way. "
