Ellika Frisell

Ellika Frisell (born February 12, 1953 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish folk musician who plays the violin and viola.

Frisell studied folk music in Adolf Fredrik's music class with Thore Härdelin in the 1960s and was later a student of Nils Agenmark and Päkkos Gustaf . In the 1970s she belonged to the group Delsbo Spelmän and Härdelins Orchester Delsbopojkarna and performed as a musician with the dance group Dellenbygdens Folkdanslag .

Since the 1980s she has also been active as a theater musician. Since 1998 she has been working with the Senegalese kora (musical instrument) player Solo Cissokho ( Ellika & Solo ). Recordings were also made with musicians such as Sven Ahlbäck , Mats Edén and Päkkos Gustaf . Frisell is chairman of the Riksförbundet för folkmusik och dans and teaches violin at the Stockholm University of Music . In 2014 she became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music .
