Elly Jannes

Elly Jannes , born Elly Pettersson (* 1907 in Brevens bruk in Kilsmo , Örebro municipality , † February 11, 2006 in Stockholm ), was a Swedish writer , translator and journalist .

Life

Jannes grew up in the working class in Sweden at the beginning of the 20th century. She was the youngest of five siblings. From an early age, she read books about Lapland and dreamed of being able to work as a journalist and writer. In 1936 she found employment with the newspaper Vi of the Swedish Consumers' Association and worked there until she retired.

Jannes' works very often depict the world of work and the milieu of people in different parts of Sweden and other countries. She was married to the doctor Svante Höjeberg. The couple have a daughter. This was named after the protagonist Elle Kari from Janne's book of the same name.
