Anna Rivkin-Brick
Anna Rivkin-Brick ; Hebrew ריבקין־בריק חנה; (Born June 10, 1908 in Homel , Russian Empire , today Belarus as Anna Riwkin ; † December 18, 1970 in Israel ) was a Swedish photographer . She is particularly known for her illustration of Astrid Lindgren 's children's books , photo books about her long-distance trips and portrait photos of Swedish personalities from art and culture. Her ballet photographs in particular made her famous in Sweden.
Life
Riwkin-Brick's Jewish birth family emigrated to Germany in their early childhood and then to Sweden in 1914. She was married to the Israeli photographer Daniel Brick.
Education and career
After finishing school, she did an internship with court photographer Benkow in Stockholm. In 1928 she opened her first own studio.
In 1955 one of her most famous paintings, a portrait of a protesting woman from Israel, was shown in the exhibition The Family of Man at New York's Museum of Modern Art ( MoMA ).
In the 1950s and 1960s, Riwkin-Brick published a series of photo picture books for children that were a huge hit and have been translated into several languages, such as the book Randi bor i Norge with text by Astrid Lindgren. In 2014, director Dvorit Shargal went in search of the children she had photographed and made a 50-minute film ( Where is Elle Kari and what happened to Noriko-san? ) About what had become of these children. In addition, Noiriko and Eva from the books met again in Tokyo. Two more films about the book series Africa! Sia lives on Kilimanjaro and Where is Lilibet the Circus child and what happened in Honolulu? .
1977/78 was posthumously their pictures along with those of Karl Sandels and Curt Gotlin at MoMA devoted an exhibition.
