Lilibet lives in a trailer with her father and mother. This one belongs to the circus where her parents also work. Lilibet loves the animals. Every day she feeds the two elephants Babette and Lona with apples.

Every day Lilibet plays with her friend Leo. They both feel a little sorry for the tigers and the monkeys. They shouldn't sit in cages, they should belong in the jungle, they both think. Leo would like to release the animals, but unfortunately he has nothing to say in the circus.

Lilibet wants to be a circus rider. But Leo keeps telling her that she can't do that. Although Lilibet practices riding every day, they unsettle Leo's statements.

The clown teddy balloon firmly believes in Lilibet. He gives Lilibet a magic rope and explains that Lilibet can become a circus rider if she puts the magic rope around a horse's tail and says hocus-pocus pokus fidibus. Lilibet does that. However, Leo cannot be convinced. Lilibet is sad and is comforted by her father. He says that she will definitely become a circus rider. This also convinces Lilibet and in the end she stands freehand on horseback.

reception

Ariana Melamed from Ynet says that Lilibet, the circus child, taught her how difficult and fascinating the life of a circus girl is.

Ruth Herrmann von der Zeit writes that Lilibet is about a little girl named Lilibet who can be seen in many photos. Astrid Lindgren's text describes in first person what Lilibet thinks, experiences and wishes for. Despite photography, the book is "child-friendly, full of charm, with a naturally acting little leading actress not banal, despite the real world never sober."
