Christmas in the stable

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christmas in the Stall ( Swedish Jul i stallet ) is a book by Astrid Lindgren .

action

A mother tells a story of the very first Christmas. Although it happened a long time ago in a distant land, the child imagines it happened in his parents' farm.

A man and a woman are very tired after a long hike and want to sleep. But there are no more lights on in the courtyards around them. Therefore the two hikers go into a stable. There the animals scratch around the freezing woman and warm her. A little later the woman has a child. Suddenly all the stars light up, one shines particularly brightly and stands directly above the stable. The shepherds in the fields wonder why the star is over the stable. When they see the newborn child, they realize that the star is shining for the child. Since there is no bed, the woman puts her child in the crib. The child sleeps there, the shepherds and animals stand all around, the poinsettia shines above the stable.

reception

criticism

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung believes that Astrid Lindgren reproduces the Christmas story in a very reduced way in the book, so that the “imagination can find its own pictures”. Lars Klinting gets close to people and animals with his pictures. With his illustrations, the Christmas story becomes "present and moving again." Harald Wiberg shows the story with his illustrations "from a dreamy, at the same time more distant perspective."

According to t-online.de , Lindgren's book is also suitable for very young children. The Christmas story is told in an “ancient, mysterious and yet new, timeless way.” Harald Wiberg's drawings are wonderful.

Reading Foundation thinks that the Christmas story is "simple, but wonderfully beautiful". The Christmas story is told in an “ancient, mysterious and yet new, timeless way.” Harald Wiberg's drawings are wonderful. Lars Klinting's illustrations would “reflect the spirit of history in a new and magical way” and make this book “a contemplative reading pleasure”.
