When Adam Engelbrecht got really angry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When Adam Engelbrecht was really angry , also a bullfighter Småland ( Swedish tjurfäktare Småländsk even När Adam Engelbrekt blev tvärarg or Kalle - the lille tjurfäktaren ) is a story of Astrid Lindgren .

action

Adam Engelbrecht is a bull. Actually, he's quite peaceful. But one day he gets really angry. Nobody knows exactly why they are so angry. Not even Adam Engelbrecht himself. Now, however, he races around the stable and the whole yard. People run away and are very afraid of him. Only a very young boy, named Kalle, is not deterred by all of this. He speaks very gently to Adam Engelbrecht. At first Adam Engelbrecht doesn't even want to hear. But the boy's tender, loving voice is so tempting and beguiling that Adam Engelbrecht can't help but let the boy gently stroke and scratch him. Suddenly Adam Engelbrecht is no longer angry, but simply lets the boy lead him back into the stable. The people are impressed and from now on they keep telling each other the story of the “youngest bullfighter in the world”.

background

Astrid Lindgren wrote the story When Adam Engelbrecht got really angry . It is based on a story by her father, Samuel August Ericsson. Karl Kurt Peters wrote the German translation .

Before director Johanna Hald shot the television series Lotta , she wanted to film When Adam Engelbrecht got really angry . She had already written the script for it, but Lindgren didn't think the script was good enough and turned it down. For this she was allowed to shoot the films about Lotta.

The story of Adam Engelbrecht is also mentioned in the Astrid Lindgren novel Kerstin und ich . The son of the bull Adam Engelbrecht, who bears the same name as his father, lives on the Lillhamra estate, where the twins Barbro and Kerstin also live. Stable hand Johann reports to him about the events of When Adam Engelbrecht got really angry .

illustration

Marit Törnqvist illustrated the book with her pictures. After she had already illustrated Astrid Lindgren's book When the Bäckhultbauer drove in the city ( När Bäckhultarn for till stan ), the publisher asked her to read Lindgren's short stories and think about which one she could imagine illustrating them. Törnqvist's choice fell when Adam Engelbrecht got really angry . Many more illustrations of Lindgren's stories followed.

Play

When Adam Engelbrecht got really angry, it was performed in theaters in Germany as well. It was shown in the Fadenschein puppet theater in Braunschweig.

reception

Hilde Umans thinks that the book is a great, heartwarming picture book with an original story and attractive, full-page drawings. Astrid Lindgren describes in a disarming and beautiful way how Kalle can calm the bull. The way she writes about the bull and its bad mood is also admirable.

Annette Y. Goldsmith, Theo Heras and Susan Corapi praise the masterful illustrations by Marit Törnqvist . Kirkus Review also thinks that Marit Törnwvist's illustrations would complement the charming story wonderfully. So they would show an old-fashioned farm, the farming family and neighbors. The book is recommended for children aged four to seven.

Tanya Boudreau thinks the story is a reminder to pay attention to the feelings of others. Often warmth and friendliness are the best way to solve problems. Astrid Lindgren's story would never look or sound out of date. Valerie Coghlan also thinks the book is excellent and timeless.
