I also want to have siblings
I also want to have siblings ( Swedish Jag vill också ha ett syskon ) is a story by Astrid Lindgren . It is about the siblings Peter and Lena. The story of the two is continued in the book I want to go to school too .
action
A mother and a father have a baby boy and call him Peter. Although he yells a lot, his parents love him very much and think he is the cutest child in the world. As Peter grows up, he is playing on the street with his friend Jan. One day Jan shows him his little brother. Peter now also wants to have siblings. He goes to his mother and tells her that. Peter's mother explains to him that he will soon have a brother or sister. When Peter's sister Lena was born, Peter suddenly found it no longer good to have siblings. Lena keeps yelling and gets a lot more attention than himself, Peter thinks. To get his mother's attention, Peter does all sorts of nonsense as soon as Peter's mother deals with Lena. So his mother has to pay attention to him.
When Peter cries because he thinks his parents prefer Lena to him, his mother takes him on her lap and tells him how terribly she loves him. She explains to him that babies are always very troublesome, including Peter when he was little. She also says that they got Lena for Peter and that he should therefore also take care of her. After all, he screamed a lot when he was little, so his mother had to take care of him. Peter thinks that Lena can now roar too. He decides to take care of her. Peter is very proud when he deals with her and she stops crying. He proudly presents his sister to the other children in the playground.
When Peter and Lena are older, his mother has a third child, Nils. Peter and Lena are very fond of Nils, although he too yells a lot and takes up a lot of his parents' time. Now Peter is happy that he didn't get a tricycle back then, but Lena. Because the two have a lot of fun together and without Lena, Peter would have no one to have a pillow fight with him.

reception
The book received mostly positive reviews.
Ella Berthoud and Susan Elderkin listed the book as one of the "Ten Best Books for Having New Siblings".
Ute Vaut finds the book a “wonderful picture book in a Bullerbü atmosphere.” It shows that the new siblings need a lot of time and attention from their parents, but also that the parents still love their older child as much as they did before. She recommends the book for children aged 4 and over. Alexandra Rausch underscores this statement and adds that the book serves well as a “relaxed preparation and opportunity for discussion”, on the basis of which the parents could talk about these things with the older child. Even Gerald Huether and Cornelia Nitsch recommend the story in her book How of children happy adults for children from three years to prepare for this in a sibling. Traude Trieb and Doris Becker agree with this statement. Doris Becker adds that Lindgren's picture book takes up this problem and deals with it lovingly.
Stefan Erlemann from media-mania.de says that the book describes “stereotypical role models and behavior”. So the mother always bathes the children, the father just watches and babies always cry. Erlemann also does not find Ilon Wikland's pictures beautiful. They are "too colorful, too naive and too ugly."
