There are no robbers in the forest ( Swedish: Nils Karlsson-Pyssling ) is a book by Astrid Lindgren . It is a collection of fairy tales that was first published in Sweden by Rabén & Sjögren in 1949 . A German publication by Oetinger Verlag took place in 1952.

The book was first published in Sweden in 1949 under the title Nils Karlsson-Pyssling by Rabén & Sjögren . In Germany, the book with the title Im Wald are no robbers appeared in 1952 by Oetinger Verlag. Karl Kurt Peters translated the book from Swedish into German. There are nine different fairy tales in the book. Eva Billow illustrated the first German edition from 1952 . The German editions from 1960 to 1969 were designed by Liane Müller . From 2004, Ilon Wikland was the book's illustrator. In the forest, no robbers are the first of Astrid Lindgren's collections of short stories or fairy tales.
In Sweden, all stories were published in audio book versions. The stories were read by Astrid Lindgren.
The stories Nils Karlsson-Däumling , The Doll Mirabell , In the Land of Twilight , Dearest Sister , and In the Woods Are No Robbers from the fairy tale collection were also published individually as picture books in Germany. Peter and Petra appeared in Sweden as a picture book and The Princess Who Wouldn't Play as a novella. All the stories were later published in other books, such as Stories and Fairy Tales , Astrid Lindgren Told , etc.
Awards
The book was awarded the Nils Holgersson plaque in 1950.
Film adaptations
Some of the stories were filmed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The films were produced by Waldemar Bergendahl and Ingrid Dalunde . Directed by Göran Carmback , Agneta Elers-Jarleman and Staffan Götestam .
