My Småland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mein Småland ( Swedish Mitt Småland ) is a book by Astrid Lindgren and Margareta Strömstedt .

content

The book is autobiographical. Astrid Lindgren tells how she grew up in Småland. She describes the games like Don't Touch the Ground , which she often played as a child, but also that she and her siblings had to help with the activities on the farm. They should be pulling beets or stinging nettles as early as the age of six. Lindgren tells how she and her siblings played around an ancient tree they called the owl tree. This tree later became Pippi Longstocking's lemonade tree. Lindgren also writes how she drove with her horses Maj and Maud on the carriage to the feast to see her relatives. Lindgren also reports on the church visits when she and her brother Gunnar do not understand what the pastor is trying to tell them. Lindgren tells where her stories take place, where the shop is, where Pippi Longstocking buys her sweets, where Alva and the chimney sweep from Madita dance together, which grave inspired them to visit the Lionheart brothers, etc.

background

In Sweden the book was first published in 1987 by Rabén & Sjögren under the title Mitt Småland . In Germany it was published by Oetinger Verlag a year later. The book contains private recordings from Astrid Lindgren's family album and illustrations from her children's books. Astrid Lindgren wrote the book together with Margareta Strömstedt . It came about after Lindgren and Strömstedt worked together on a television documentary about Astrid Lindgren. Jan-Hugo Norman took some of the photos from the book. Anna-Liese Kornitzky translated the text into German. Along with The Vanished Land , this book is one of the few books that Lindgren has written for adults.

reception

The book is quoted again and again when it comes to Astrid Lindgren's life. This happens in articles as well as in non-fiction books or in documentaries.

Moly Könyv thinks that the reader can take a journey into Astrid Lindgren's world with the help of the text and the pictures. This would show Astrid Lindgren's own Småland world, in which many of her fictional characters have their home.

Büchertreff.de praises the great photos and drawings. It is also exciting to see how much Astrid Lindgren has transferred from her childhood to her books. She believes that by reading this book, Lindgren's other works can be perceived completely differently and gives the book five out of five stars.
