Elmer is an American horror comedy from 1988 directed by Frank Henenlotter , who also wrote the screenplay.

action

Brian begins an involuntary relationship with a vicious and cunning worm about a foot long. This worm, Elmer, has a grim face and feeds on human brains. Elmer secretes a secretion in Brian's brain that causes hallucinations and makes him addicted. In order to keep Elmer alive and to continue to be supplied with the secretion, Brian is looking for victims. The drug addiction creates tension with his girlfriend Barbara and his brother. After horrific murders by Elmer, one of the victims eventually kills Elmer. The drugs destroyed Brian's brain and the film ends with a supernatural light shining out from Brian's open skull.

Production notes

The MPAA cut the film heavily in order to get an R rating. Kevin Van Hentenryck makes a cameo. He starred as Duane Bradley in Henenlotters film Basket Case . The film was unindexed in January 2015. After a re-examination by the FSK, the unabridged version was released in October 2018 from the age of 16.

criticism

Elmer has a rating of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film enjoys cult status because of its absurdity.
