Eloi de Bianya was the religious name of the Catalan Capuchin Joan Ayats Plantalech (born June 4, 1875 in Sant Salvador de Bianya , † July 28, 1936 in Barcelona ). He was murdered during religious persecution in the Spanish Civil War . On November 21, 2015, he was beatified in the Cathedral of Barcelona, along with other Capuchins murdered during the religious persecution of 1936 .

Life

He was a construction worker in his village. He became a Capuchin on June 22, 1900. He was the porter of the Capuchin monastery in Sarrià . When the friars left in July 1936, he tried to escape with his nephew and another friar. He was murdered after admitting to be a friar. He was murdered at the northern train station in Barcelona with the chaplain Cebrià de Terrassa and the students Miquel de Bianya and Jordi de Santa Pau.

Adoration

Already during his life he had a reputation for holiness.

The remains of him and nine confreres were found in a shrine under the altar of a chapel in the Capuchin Church of Sarrià.
