Elsa Franconi-Poretti

Elsa Franconi-Poretti (born August 25, 1895 in Lugano ; † June 16, 1995 there ; entitled to live in Lugano and Cureglia ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ). She sat on the Ticino Grand Council from 1971 to 1975 and was its president in 1971.

education and profession

Franconi-Poretti worked as a primary school teacher in Lugano until 1924. In the same year she married the architect Giuseppe Franconi and moved with her husband to the south of France, where she worked for the Corriere del Ticino and the RSI until 1955 .

politics

After her return, Franconi-Poretti was politically active, in particular for women's suffrage. In 1957 she founded the free-spirited women's group Lugano, which she presided over from its foundation until 1978.

After women's suffrage was introduced in Ticino in 1969 , Franconi-Poretti was elected to the Ticino Grand Council in 1971 as one of the first women. She became President of Parliament in the same year.
