Elsbeth Huther (born March 30, 1885 in Hagenow ; † 1968 ) was a German portrait and landscape painter.

Life

Elsbeth Huther was born in Hagenow in 1885. She received her first lessons from 1905 from the Schwerin portrait painter Louise Schmidt (1855-1924). This was followed by studies at the art school in Berlin and for three years with Max Feldbauer (1869–1948), who taught as a teacher at the women's academy of the Munich Artists' Association . From 1914 Elsbeth Huther worked as a drawing teacher in Wismar . Initially only a portrait painter, she later also turned to landscape painting. The mostly small-format works were probably also the result of numerous study trips, such as to Italy in 1924/25, to the island of Hiddensee in 1926 or to Upper Bavaria in 1927. Elsbeth Huther lived in Rostock from 1934 to 1952 . In 1955 there was a personal exhibition in the Rostock Museum in honor of the artist. After this time, the painter's traces are lost in the sources.
