The Elum Ghar ( English Mount Elam ) is with about 2800 m height the highest mountain in the southern area of the Swat valley in northern Pakistan . Closest major cities are Barikot and Mingora .
tourism
The flanks of Elum Ghar are overgrown with conifers (mainly pines but also Himalayan cedars ); the rocky summit region is only free of snow in the summer months of July and August; after that the monsoon season begins . Because of the pleasantly cool air and some small mountain streams, the mountain is a popular destination and picnic spot for many, mostly younger Pakistanis. The inhabitants of earlier times saw in him the abode of ghosts; Peryano Dand ("ghost lake "), which is only about 20 m × 10 m in size and surrounded by rocks, is now a summer bathing place.
history
There are numerous archaeological sites around the mountain - including the Buddhist stupas of Shingardara and Amlukdara .
