The Elvenholzbach is a flowing body of water , which rises in Hattingen-Niederwenigern on the property of the house Byfanger Straße 70 near the Kohlenstraße. The stream flows to the northeast towards the Ruhr , where, after a total length of 3.1 km, it flows downstream of the Dahlhausen lock on the left side .
The LANUV wrote in 2017: “The stream is accompanied by structurally rich grassland made up mainly of indigenous trees, but also some non-native species. The Bachtal has a high corridor function in an environment dominated by arable farming and settlement areas. "
