The Elvire River is a river in the Kimberley region in the northeast of the Australian state of Western Australia .
geography
The river rises about twelve kilometers north of Halls Creek on the slopes of Mount Barrett on the south side of the Mueller Ranges and initially flows east to the small town of Wungu . Then it turns its course to the north and flows into the Panton River on the southern edge of the Purnululu Conservation Reserve .

history
The first European to see the Elvire River was surveyor Harry Johnston . In 1884 he measured it. He named the river after Margret Elvire Forrest , the wife of his boss John Forrest .
