The Johnston River is a river in the Kimberley region in the northeast of the Australian state of Western Australia .
geography
The river has its source in the Ruby Plains Station area and flows north. It crosses under Duncan Road and flows north of Wungu in the Elvire Gorge into the Elvire River .

history
The first European to see the Johnston River was surveyor Harry Johnston , who surveyed it in 1884. In 1887, this river was named after Johnston by C. Nyulasy , another surveyor .
